Abstract
Automated immunoassay analyzers have transformed modern laboratory diagnostics by delivering rapid, high-throughput, and reproducible results for a wide spectrum of analytes. These platforms integrate multiple immunoassay formats—including competitive, sandwich, heterogeneous, and homogeneous methods—within a single automated workflow, enhancing analytical precision while reducing manual intervention. Their widespread application in endocrinology, infectious diseases, cardiology, therapeutic drug monitoring, and oncology underscores their clinical importance. Despite challenges such as instrument cost and maintenance complexity, automation significantly improves diagnostic efficiency, standardization, and connectivity with laboratory information systems. This commentary highlights the operational principles, assay types, clinical utility, and technological advances defining the role of automated immunoassay analyzers in contemporary laboratory medicine.
