ABSTRACT

Fluoride compounds are naturally present in soil, water and food. The aim of this study was to investigate the possible ameliorative effect of Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) on sodium fluoride induced oxidative stress mediated genotoxicity in the bone marrow cells of rats. Rats were orally (gastric intubation) pretreated with EGCG (40mg/kg BW) followed by Sodium fluoride (NaF) (25mg/kg BW) daily for a period of 28days. NaF intoxicated rats showed a significant increase in the frequency of micronucleus (MN) in polychromatic erythrocytes (PCEs), structural chromosome aberrations (CA) with decreased mitotic index (MI) in bone marrow cells.
